The 2025 Arnold Lecture

Emergent Dharma: Asian American Feminist Buddhists on Practice, Identity, and Resistance

The 2025 Arnold Lecture will be delivered by Dr. Sharon Suh, Professor of Buddhism in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at Seattle University. Dr. Suh will share insights from her fourth book, titled "Emergent Dharma: Asian American Feminist Buddhists on Identity, Practice, and Resistance", which was published this year. She will lead us through an exploration on how Asian American feminist Buddhist women are re-imagining identity and practice in ways that resist stereotypes of what it means to be Buddhist in the United States. Her work speaks not only to religious studies but also to women and gender studies, race and ethnicity, and American cultural studies.

This lecture is intended for general audiences and all are welcome!

To help us prepare refreshments, please register for the event.
